OSU Greenhouse Project

The Ohio State University CEFPRC at Waterman Farms

Unique Environments Tailored to Our Clients’ Success

At LLK, we’re honored to play an integral role in the growth of higher-ed facilities. We collaborated with Ohio State University to design, procure, and install a 25,000 sq. ft. production greenhouse and a 9,000 sq. ft. greenhouse to take interdisciplinary research in horticulture and crop science to the next level.

By understanding the university’s goals, LLK created an efficient indoor greenhouse solution that aligned with their mission of providing a platform for interdisciplinary research. During the design phase, our team assisted with the assessment and value-engineering recommendation of customized greenhouse designs.

To stay within the client’s budget, LLK provided design, procurement, and renovation options that aligned with OSU’s needs. Our team also offered greenhouse bid packages, including a specialized greenhouse system to support the client’s objectives.

“LLK Greenhouse Solutions was a great company to work with at The Ohio State University Controlled Environment Agricultural Research Complex project (CEARC). LLK kept us up to date with the current greenhouse materials and equipment market conditions, lead times, and down payment requirements all throughout the pandemic and the many months that followed. LLK always had enough manpower and equipment to get their scope of work completed in a timely and efficient manner. If we had an RFI question, or a greenhouse systems coordination issue at the jobsite, LLK provided solutions to the team to help move the project forward. LLK was our strongest contractor on the project and were one of the main reasons for its success.

Bidding & Procurement Process

Project Scope

Before starting construction, LLK requested bids and qualified greenhouse structure manufacturers and equipment suppliers to find the best fit for OSU. From there, we procured the greenhouse structure and mechanical components (heaters, controls, shade, benching, and lighting) as needed.

Throughout the project, LLK oversaw the project and quality control of all manufacturers, suppliers, and subcontractors. Our professional team self-performed the erection, glazing, and commissioning of the Van Wingerden and JFS greenhouse structure approved by OSU.

Following our Personalized Growth Model, LLK also self-performed the placement of approved equipment and the installation of low-voltage environmental equipment. After the build was complete, our team commissioned the greenhouse equipment and environmental controls to ensure our solution exceeded the clients’ expectations.
